Tyrone Williams and Deondre Hopkins will be teammates again as they were among a group on nine Shoemaker athletes to sign scholarships on Monday. Williams and Hopkins signed with Wayland Baptist University to play basketball for the next 4 years. Wayland Baptist is a NAIA school located in Plainview, Texas. We want to send well wishes, from Shoemaker Nation, to Tyrone and Deondre on their next chapter.
As reported by Killeen Daily Herald:
Jackson and Taylor weren’t the only teammates to sign Monday, as Tyrone Williams and Deondre Hopkins both signed with Wayland Baptist after leading the Grey Wolf basketball team to a second straight district title — the first outright in program history — and the first regional tournament appearance in team history.
“It feels great,” Williams said. “I couldn’t ask for more. I just thank God and my coaches and teammates.”
Williams and Hopkins were both grateful to everyone who helped along the way and were also happy to be teammates again at the next level.
“Me and him, we’ll get closer as friends,” Hopkins said, “and I at least I know somebody going up there, so it’s just going to be a great experience.”
